Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from pivotCE!

2013 is almost over and what a year for webOS it has been!  Ok, so it’s been pretty sleepy around here, but there are many things that webOS users have been “given” over the years that we are certainly still using.  In fact, these things are what make being a webOS user still fun, easy, and relevant today.  So, for the next 12 days…let’s call it the “12 Days of webOS-mas”…we’ll be paying homage to 12 of the most important technologies, apps, utilities, and functions of webOS.  The first one comes tomorrow so after you wake up from your “afternoon-gift-coma-nap” head on over and check it out.

LG will show webOS TVs at CES 2014

Do you remember webOS Nation’s sad video from CES 2013 where they tried to find webOS stuff?  Well, it looks like we won’t be disappointed again this year.

Up til now we’ve only seen screenshots and heard rumors.  But LG researcher Hong Sung-pyo confirmed the presentation of their new webOS TV set at CES 2014 in Las Vegas!

With a purported 2.2 GHz dual-core processor and 1.5 GB of RAM this will be the highest spec hardware webOS has ever officially run on.  We will see how much LG customized the interface.  According to rumors from the beginning of the year they revamped it completely.

A GAMECHANGER.

-LG

That’s what LG called webOS together with their Smart TVs.  I’m very exited what this means for webOS, Enyo, and especially for our current devices.  Will the TVs use the current App Catalog?  It would be great if developers (re)start creating new apps.  I can’t wait to see what LG is preparing.  What do you think?

Job Listing: Staff Software Engineer for Enyo JavaScript/HTML5

Sorry, this one isn’t with pivotCE (although we are always looking for more contributors), but LG are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to work on the Enyo platform.  So yes, Enyo and webOS are still very much alive.  If you would like to put all your webOS developing skills to good use then head over to the LG link below.  If you are lucky enough to get the position at their Silicon Valley Labs in Santa Clara, CA, do come back and tell us what it is they’re up to (NDA permitting)!

UPDATE:  ACL for webOS has been suspended by OpenMobile pending software fixes first reported in the “read this” link below.

That’s right, folks.  The public release of ACL for webOS version 1.0 is here and available for your purchasing-downloading-license-registering…oh, and using pleasure.  The long awaited and highly anticipated ability to run Android apps (provided they are compatible with Android 2.3.x and below) on your HP TouchPad within webOS has arrived.

But “not all is well in the state of Denmark”.  Before you read the rest and start celebrating, every webOS, Linux, and GPL fan should read this. Continue reading UPDATE – ACL for webOS v1.0 Published
