The team is growing and LuneOS is improving. We’ve made significant progress this month. We do our best to get a new release out near the first of every month. The holidays put us a week behind but allow us to introduce the latest build, Breve.
News Crumbs – 9th JANUARY 2015
It is said that a watched pot never boils, but will a webOS toaster send a pop-up toaster alert to a webOS watch when the toast is ready? Only time will tell…
- Enyo 2.5.1 was released on the 11th of December and has just had an incremental release to 2.5.1.1.
- We have another Chicago meet up on the 11th, 7pm at Moretti’s in Schaumburg. (Note: That’s THIS SUNDAY, not the 15th – which was previously posted in error). New faces are welcome.
- TCL / Alcatel relaunched the Palm brand at CES. The prior speculation in the tech press was a result of this detective work by webOS Nation forum member, ederic, who is now writing for pivotCE too!
- There is some background on the webOS watch excitement from The Wall Street Journal. It seems the plan is to slowly build the eco-system. After the webOS watch, the software on home appliances (toaster?!) is also a possibility. Sadly LG seems to believe that on phones, “everyone expects Android”, so there may be a long wait for that product.
- More Smart Watch news! Metaview has added Pebble compatibility to this app. Give it a try with your Pebble watch.
- Following the death of Josh Chambers (aka OldSkoolVWLover), forum member eblade attended the memorial event and posted this account and photograph.
Whatever you use to measure time, make the most of yours in 2015 with our best wishes for the New Year.
LG webOS watch slated for 2016 release
As we mentioned here back in October, LG let slip they were building a webOS smart watch. Thanks to CES, LG has confirmed this to be true. The watch is slated for a 2016 production release.
Android Central has the exclusive and webOS Nation adds their own speculation. But the key to take away is that LG is building an ‘ecosystem’. Forgive me for speculating but a company does not build an ecosystem with just a watch and of course, TVs…
So allow me to predict the future for a second: webOS smart phone in 2016. I’m calling it. 😉
Be sure to check Android Central’s article for more photos and here’s their video:
There’s a conversation about this already in progress. Join in!

TCL Relaunches the Palm Brand
So Alcatel (sorry, TCL) have confirmed what we knew – they bought the Palm branding. Unsurprisingly, they officially announced it at CES. What IS a bit more surprising is the announcement that they are somehow bringing back the spirit of Palm in the silicon valley and also engaging with “Palm’s very own community”.
I don’t know if that is meant to be those on webOS Nation and the other dedicated forums around the world or the various engineers of Palm’s past who have moved onto various projects including webOS TV, Android and Pebble watches.
TCL have wisely avoided use of the term, “In the coming months”, but, “The exact timeline of the rollpout of the Palm project will be communicated at a later date.”
I wish TCL/Palm well in their goal to be an innovative company. I suspect that to get the interest of the community of people who have stuck with Palm products for this long, their new devices will need to run PalmOS, webOS or something else; something new that’s equally innovative.
At the moment it doesn’t appear that webOS features in their plans. Perhaps their best bet for a community is to grow a new one around a genuinely ground-breaking product?

LG at CES 2015
You may recall the excitement preceeding LG’s press conference last year. There was some hope that if webOS was a success as smart television interface, it might yet return to mobile devices produced by a quality manufacturer. Continue reading LG at CES 2015
