Well, it’s 2024 and technology continues to advance. The TouchPad isn’t new by any means, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be slightly modernized to be more convenient today. Specifically, it is entirely possible to convert the TouchPad’s Micro USB port to USB C for charging and USB storage access. I’ll show you how.
This is a tough mod which requires micro-soldering and modifying a PCB which you will have a hard time sourcing a replacement for without buying another TouchPad. Proceed at your own peril.
Hey! Got a Pebble smart watch? Or more specifically a Pebble (1st Gen) or a Pebble Steel? I’ve got a sweet you-might-have-missed-it tutorial for you! Grab your favorite webOS 2.x phone and your smartwatch and keep reading!
I bet you’ve seen topics on webOS Nation forums and our article here on pivotCE about Making Android More Like webOS. Well, webOS Nation forums user, Shuswap, just kicked it up a notch.
He recently shared with me on Twitter that he’d made a pretty sweet Android mod to mimic webOS. I asked for a tutorial and he obliged! Read on for his great work and get ready to webOS-ify your Android!
Here’s the scenario: you’ve dug out your Pre or TouchPad and for nostalgia sake try to set it up only to find that things are a bit tougher to get working. I feel ya. This guide aims to help some of that frustration as it relates to Google Synergy.
UPDATE: Grabber5.0 has fixed GMail in the same manner that Yahoo was fixed. Check the forum post for the 3 certificate files you need. You can ignore pretty much everything about forwarding emails below but I’ll leave it there in case someone wants to know how to do that.
Grab the zip from the above linked post, unzip the 3 .pem files, transfer them to the webOS device, and open each one by one and accept the certificate. Refresh your GMail account in the Email app and BOOM. FIXED! YAY!
I’ve had it. Break YouTube and we’ll fix it, kill Skype and we’ll throw a fit and get it turned back on, but take GMail away? SERIOUSLY? It’s a deal breaker. I’ve had the same email address for over a decade. If it doesn’t work on webOS then I quite honestly cannot live without it. YES THE MOBILE VIEW WORKS but who else here is sick of a browser workaround (ie. Facebook)?? I mean, the browser isn’t exactly winning awards for innovating technology these days, amirite?
